Hello, I became a trainee Community Organiser with Brighton Uni Students Union in July 2014 with Cohort 14.
I am new to Brighton, but my partner grew up here so we have come back after 20 years with our little boy to live beside the sea side, beside the sea! Originally from Southampton, I have been living in London off and on for the last 15 years, and it is nice to back on the coast.
I cannot quite believe that I am a Community Organiser – it is just the perfect job for me. I love talking to people and I love doing things that will get people up and out and talking to one another. My working life has always been about motivating people to action through my work with trade unions and with voluntary organisations I have learn just how important it is to communicate and pool ideas and resources to get things done. My moto in life is “Rome wasn’t built in a day, but some of it was”. Small actions by many people lead to great things.
l just love getting out and about meeting the residents of the Grand Parade, Tarner and Queens Park areas of Brighton and listening to what they love about our community, what concerns they have and what vision they have to change our city into a better place for us all to live together.
If you feel the same about your role in your community - please get in touch either by phone, e-mail or via our Community Organisers Facebook page. We want to hear from you!
